Description

The Faux Echo brings the warm feel of an analog delay, able to emulate the classic, big room feel of a tape echo. It is based on the PT2399, and features 4 controls:

  • Repeats: sets the amounts of repeats, up to oscillating
  • Tone: controls the character, from warm and darker to a clearer tone with more highs
  • Level: controls the level of the delayed signal
  • Delay: sets the delay time, up to 600ms

This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal.

Not included in the kit, but also good to have:

  • Aluminium enclosure: select one from top
  • DC power supply
  • 4 nice knobs for the potentiometer, 6.3mm shafts
  • Decal, transfer or transparent sheets for labeling

5 from 5 Good product - Excellent support

I bought this set just to try out to build a pedal for the first time.
Everything was included just as mentioned on the website, except one capacitor with the wrong value.
I contacted the support, they responded immediately and sent a new component right away.
The products are good and the support makes it perfect.

5 from 5 Great sounding delay and straight-forward enough to put together

This is the second pedal that Ive ever built and it all went together well and amazingly worked first time. Theres a high parts count but if youre methodical and cross-reference the BOM and schematic, making sure that the right part is going in the correct place then it should all be fine. Make sure you have a good magnifying glass though as the labelling on the tiny caps requires the eyesight of an eagle to read!

The 3PDT board is great for simplifying the wiring and making for a cleaner & neater build.

The delay sounds great and having the tone knob is a definite plus to help better shape the delay character over the similar Bluejay which lacks the tone control.

Cant think of anything more than I would ask from a delay pedal - spot on!

4 from 5 value for money

despite a faulty diode after all it worked perfectly.

5 from 5 Awesome delay and excellent service

This kit contains a large amount of parts but is rather easy to build. The delay is very useful and the sounds are what I was looking for.
There was a short delay on the shipment but after just one email, Klaus immediately took a look at it and it was send the next day.

5 from 5 Great sounding delay with quality components

This was my first ever pedal build. I maybe should have started with something less complex but I really wanted a delay pedal.

This goes all the way from very slight delay all the way up to repeating oscillating sounds with tonnes of control. I am super happy that I got it working first time and didnt make too many mistakes. Id say the hardest part was identifying some of the components just because of my low experience, but just check it all off against the parts list before starting (I learned the hard way). Secondly, make sure you put the wires from the two PCBs with a little extra length for ease of routing. Lastly, buy the enclosure with it and get it ready before doing the electronics, saves time and means you can try it out as soon as youve finished wiring!

Take care and enjoy....next for me is a Screamer!

5 from 5 Very nice sounding

i was really supprised by the sound quality of the Faux, it is quit good. i like that you can adjust the tone, i like a bit of muffled repeats. Would like the delay time a bit longer but for most applications it will do fine. I find it frustrating though that of 4 of my ordered projects all 4 had missing or wrong components. I basicly check every resistance value as you can not rely on them.

5 from 5 Great sounding and clean build

For an experienced builder this a straightforward and neat build. Wiring is super easy with the switch pcb. Be sure to double check component values, my maximum delay time turned out a little shorter but still long enough and great sound.

5 from 5 Nice simple delay

Simple straight forward delay, you play the note and it repeats a lil time later.
Repeats from one to infinite (oscillating) which is very fun.

Time goes to 600ms, but analyzing the spec sheet of PT2399 I found that you can push it to more, but the sound quality will suffer. So checking the circuit for this pedal, I added a switch to the side that adds (or not) 51K Ohms to pin-6 that controls the time. That way I got 0~600ms of clean delay or 600~1200ms of low-fi delay.

All in all Im pretty happy with it... with it... with it... ith it... th it... h it... it... t... ..!

5 from 5 Fantastic analog-sounding delay pedal

Ive had my share of delay pedals (EHX #1 echo & Canyon, Mooer Ocean Machine, etc.) and I often have a really hard time finding ones that I like. They always have this digital trying to sound analog vibe that bothers me. Although the Faux uses a digital chip for the delay, it sounds resolutely analog with a lovely amount of grit and a tone pot to shape the high-end filtering.

If I understand correctly, the larger the delay you set with the PT2399, the more lo-fi artifacts appear. At the 600ms setting (delay pot all way up) you can year some small artifacts, that sound sort of like a sampling rate quantisation noise. I find that this disappears when dialing the delay back a little (~300 or 400ms). It doesnt bother me at all, I feel that it gives the pedal a lovely and quite unique character.

As an added bonus, you can get amazing self-oscillating sounds if you set repeats on full ! From slowly evolving repeats (if the tone is dialed down) to mad feedback that retains a nice warm character. I built the pedal inside a BB enclosure and added a momentary footswitch that shorts two legs of the repeat pot when pressed (equivalent to turning the pot all the way up), and I absolutely love the control it gives for ambient guitar music !

5 from 5 Great Sound and great way to start with DIY kits

The whole assembling process was easy and fun and the pedal sounds great. A bit noisy but maybe it is due to the cable lengths (although I kept them as short as I could) but overall a pretty solid delay to be honest.
