Ive been building a bunch of transparent overdrives to see how they perform with my p bass. This one is definitely the favorite so far, beating out the pro10 green and pauper pcbs from pedalpcb. Those are both excellent too but this one seemed to sound the most like my bass coming out the the other end. I was surprised due to a lack of tone knob but this is the one that will stay on my board. The sag control is surprisingly useful.

5 from 5 Great kit and great sounding overdrive

PedalPCB is always guaranteed to have top quality PCBs.
Musikding always has top quality kits. Even the J201 were very easy to bias.
The Chop Shop is a low gain overdrive with an interesting Sag control, sounds great

5 from 5 Chopshop

The second Barbershop I made. It is my favorite boost/OD for my AC30. Use it with the normal channel. Easy pcb, needs biasing the Jfets since pedalpcb add some pads in the pcb.
The drilled enclosure is perfect for the Fairfield industrial look. The blue beaked knobs are not as nice as the black ones. The blue ones show some white damages around the pointer. So a bit cheaper feeling.

4 from 5 Great sounding drive

Good quality pcb and components. Except possibly the J201s which came with the kit. When I calibrated them initially at the recommended 6-6.5 volts, the pedal had no clipping to speak of. Even with maximum gain, the pedal wouldnt break up. After following some suggestions in the PedalPCB forum, I dialled them in by ear, and could get it to break up slightly but it didnt sound quite as expected, especially when using the sag control. Calibrated voltages were approx 4 and 3 volts for Q1 and Q2. Further measurement, as well as scrutiny by others more experienced on the forum, seem to indicate that these are not real J201s. Even if this is so, it is a unique sounding pedal which adds depth and clarity to a clean signal. I look forward to finding some other J201s to try and compare.
