The Range is a treblebooster based on the legendary Dallas Rangemaster. It has the same features but some addons. It works with a germanium PNP transistor and uses a toggle-switch to switch between different input capacitors which makes it more versatile. It also features negative ground, so you can use the power-supply you use for your ofter effects.
This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal.
Not included in the kit, but also very good to have:
- Aluminium enclosure: select one above.
- 9V battery or DC power supply
- 1 nice knob for the potentiometer
- Decal, transfer or transparent sheets for labeling

Easy to build as the PCB is well designed and of good quality. Sounds great. Worked first time, and I'm no expert at soldering by any means! I would advise getting the big enclosure. I got the small one, and it's a bit snug - no room for the battery clip, and the drilling had to be very precise.

Very nice and good kit, and it sounds many better than I was especting. I use it with a Telecaster Deluxe 72 RI (sounds a little dark, the reason why I have wanted to try a treble booster) and a Laney TF300 amp (very versatile hybrid amp). On the clean channel, this booster can give a little and nice crunchy vintage 60s sound but I prefer use it on the fisrt drive channel. That way I obtain a great 70's fuzzy distortion with more harmonics and attack. On the second drive channel (big saturation), same thing with an interminable sustain, but I does not really use this channel actually. It was my first DIY project and it took me 3 or 4 hours (no painting) to build it, and worked at the first attempt ! I builded this kit with a small B box, I does not regret but it is a bit tricky to put all the components in a good way in a such sized box. So if you does not like puzzles and brainstorming, choose a BB box. Finally, a word about the service : ordered on Friday at 6:00pm, received (in France) the next Wednesday... no more to say. Thanks Musikding !

I have been looking at buying a Germanium Booster for a while now, then I found "The Range" Treble booster kit, and decided to build one myself. This kit is excellent. The PCB is clean and well laid out. The information on the web sit is sufficient to put one together. Which is lucky as it does not come with any building instructions. All components in the kit are clearly labled even the resistors, so there is no excuses for getting them wrong. With a total cost of €22 for the kit and box I can find no fault. If you want to pay hundreads of Euros for a boutique then go ahead. I'll stick with my Range. Kevin

I once built myself a kind of treblebooster and it didn't work out, well, it worked.. but didn't sound very good. And when I ran into this site I couldn't resist to buy a kit that whout sound somewhat like an old dallas rangemaster (I like Brian May's sound very much, and he used one in the early days). The kit was very easy to build, and guess what.. It sounds great! My home setup (I only tested the range at home, it's box is painted today) is a F*nder Squier, into the range which is connected to my homemade Champ. With the range switched in treble position you get a nice thin sound, very good for rythm. In bass position you get a warm, thick type of sound, and whats left is full range (well, I labeled them in that way) which creates a lot of harmonics that gives you a very rich sound, this one is already my personal favourite. All in all I think this kit is very good value even for beginners, and can easily compete with commercial pedals. That's why I rate this kit 5 stars. btw. service is also good!
