4 from 5 Simple circuit, sounds great - a must have pedal!

This was a nice easy build, low part count. Didnt realise I needed a booster till I tried this and now its an always-on pedal. Really helps to drive my other pedals and really lifts the sound adding a nice bit of sparkle and pop to the tone, everything sounds really flat and muddy without it on now, not a problem I thought I had previously!

Gave it 4 stars as I subsequently built the updated version of this circuit with a single 9v1 zener diode instead of the 2 1N4148 on veroboard, and it sounds better, just a little more clarity and gives a greater volume boost - not that this circuit lacks in volume mind.

A must have!

5 from 5 Practical and compact boost circuit

The HardOne boost is great for a combination of reasons:

1. Its cheap and fairly easy to source (BS170 is not always available so I stocked some).
2. Second, while it does crackle in the last quarter or so of the pot range, it behaves as a very satisfactory clean boost for most of the range. This makes it a cheaper alternative to actual pure clean boosts for levels of boost within that clean range.
3. Its the smallest boost PCB Ive found on Musikding; apparently the only one that fits horizontally in a 1590A.

I built a standalone version fitted in a 1590A, which has definitely been a useful tool on my board.

It has also become my go-to whenever I want to add an overall output level control (able to boost or reduce the volume) to a pedal that doesnt have one. I am planning to add this to a VH Custom 5-band EQ (which has no overall volume control) to imitate the level slider that can be found on the Boss GE-7.
