Description

The Byzantium Flanger provides flanging effects ranging from mild chorus to airplane wooshes. Based on BBD ICs, this is a complete analogue pedal!

For this project only a parts list is available at the moment. The complete build docs will follow later. So please be sure you know what you are doing, as this is a very complex project!

This kit contains the PCB and all necessary parts. Please select 4 knobs, for 6,3mm Shaft, up to 19mm diameter, separately.
Here are the bills of material:
bill of material BBD
bill of material Audio

This project is by PedalPCBs, in cooperation with Musikding. If you have any problems with the contents of the kit, please contact Das Musikding (Klaus).

5 from 5 Among the best flangers ever designed

Its a big build with 2 pcb, the tricky part is to anticipate before connecting both boards together, and populate the first board accordingly, so nothing protrudes too much when its time to assemble both pcb together. Try to bend all caps on the pcb for example. If you use sockets for transistors, bend the transistors too.

Nothing special to report about the build process, you can go on PedalPCB forum to look for tips for calibration, its not hard to calibrate anyway. Make sure to connect both boards together before soldering the connectors, to avoid any misaligned socket.

i never tried a real BF-2 before, i heard good things about it and wanted to try : i am not desappointed.

In my humble opinion, if we just consider the modulation by itself, its not as good as the A/DA flanger, I never heard a flanger able to sound better than the A/DA.

On the other hand the BF-2 does a great job on compressed or high gain signals. The BF-2 has its strong points, even compared to the A/DA.

I can compare it with the BF-3. I think the feedback sounds warmer and more lively on the BF-2, theres not the metalic aspect i can hear in the BF-3. Other than that their are surprisingly similar, with maybe a little more warmth and a slightly different flanging texture in the BF-2.

Really glad i could build this circuit thanks to musikding and Pedal PCB, i have been hoping for a long time that this project would become available here someday, and the dream came true.

Thank you very much !
