Description

The DC-Echo is a replica of the Echo 600. How it sounds? In summary, it's a cleaner, slightly brighter and lower noise version of the Deluxe Memory Man. Enhanced with some extra features and with a longer delay time.

Attention: The build process is very complex, after that a complex adjustment must be done. Due to this complexity, there is no support for this. Everything is described very well in the manual, please read it carefully BEFORE and learn it by heart :-)
So it is NOT a beginner's project!

This kit contains the PCB and all necessary parts. The enclosure can be selected, please select 7 knobs for 6,3mm shaft separately.

This project is by Lectric-fx, in cooperation with Musikding. If you have any problems with the contents of the kit, please contact Das Musikding (Klaus). Since this project is rather complex, it is more for the experienced builder. For technical problems here is the link to the support-forum: Lectric-fx Support.

5 from 5 Expensive but still worth every bucks

The most expensive pedal on the site deserve every bucks in my opinion.

Its not that hard to build, I had harder Time with il and down daddy, but its hand down the nest delay pedal Ive ever heard. Biasing is not that hard and theres a tip from madbean where :

You put feedback and delay to max in short and trim up gain 1 until you got self oscillation or before and same in long for game 2.

When you dial up input you get a Neil Young close tone from the saturated repeat. And the modulation is deep, Lush.

I built an Hamlet + which is very handy because of tap tempo etc, but theres no match for this one.

5 from 5 Analog sounding delay

This circuit worked the first time I tried it, quite easy to do with some experience at building stompboxes (audio probe, etc.).

I am not really impressed with how it sounds, I guess it is more for people who really love vintage effects, for people who really want to build a memory man themself, or add mods to the circuit . I have two other delays I bought second-hand (Ibanez DE7, and Vox Time Machine) and both can do more tricks and sound better, or just as good, to my ears.

There is definitly an analog sounding characteristic (warmth, density ...). There is also a modulation feature which can be applied to the repeats, but there is nothing special about it, in my opinion.

We can toggle between short and long delay : short is very short, long isnt very long. Like 700ms (0.7 second) maximum.
Repeats are quite clean, nothing like the usual delay based on PT2399, no big shhhhhh inside the repeats.

It does what it is supposed to do, so i give 5 stars, but, with this kind of money, I would suggest to find a real one from EHX or an other good delay, second-hand . In my opinion, it is more a vintage collector thing than anything else, but I can change my mind...Experiences can change, according to the gear interacting with this delay.

700 ms (0,7 seconde) maximum.

5 from 5 Fun Build but need improvement in Instructions

Musikding promptly processed my order and got it to DHL for shipping within 7 business days of my placing the order, but it stayed on the ground with DHL for 5 days before it flew out of Frankfurt to the U.S.

All of the parts met specs and seem to work properly. I checked all the values on the resistors, caps and pots before starting the assembly. I got the box drilled by Musikding, and the DC power jack hole was too big, and the holes for the Input and Output jacks were drilled on the opposite side of the box. Not a big deal. Musikding offered to send a replacement, but I declined the offer.

Musikding was very helpful in coordinating some Support from Lectrix, as described below.

Ive built several tube/valve guitar amps from kits, and from scratch with schematics, so I have some experience.

The component installation was simple, just dont rush the job and pay attention to details of the components.

The real problem I had was getting sound from the pedal after I completed the build. I thought it was a build error, or bad wiring, or bad component, or bad PCB. It turned out that the Bias 1 trim pot just needed to be adjusted to get sound output. Then I could calibrate the pedal.

Thats where the Instructions could use some improvement if youve never done this type of pedal before. Just have a Note added to the Instructions that says if you have problem with getting sound output, then just adjust the Bias 1 Trim Pot until you start getting output. It acts like a switch, and if the wiper on the trimmer is out of range then No Sound.

I spent a week on the Lectrix forum trying to figure out what was going on, and then just by luck I found the solution.

Also, a schematic would really have been helpful so I could have traced the signal more easily. It would have required less guessing and less time of the moderators. I understand Lectrixs desire to protect their circuit design work, but they do have a copyright.

Also, Lectrix updated their signal tracing procedure on their website, but its not in the Instructions. So that should be fixed.

Im very satisfied with the product and look forward to using it.
