5 from 5 This is truly musical

Well done because:
1. Very good signal / noise ratio.
2. Good choice in filters. And what it doesnt have can be easy added by using any good eq after.
3. Good powerfull output level.
4. Very nice distortion structure.
5. Good response to volume from guitar.
6. Good response to tone and pickup switching system.
7. Easy to operate and more then able to give line output level to record directly.
8. 7 gives the possibility to use it în front of the amp or în Send Return or în a mixer or PA. Lots of choice is a plus for any pedal.
Bravo

5 from 5 Powerful and beautiful high gain overdrive, surprisingly good on low gain settings.

I built this circuit some time ago. At first I was pleased but not convinced.

There is really something very original and interesting about how it sounds and how the controls are interacting.
For exemple, if the Presence toggle is set upward (max), the Hicut control will be more effective in the second half of its rotation. If it is set on mid position or down, the Hicut control is effective on the first half.

All toggleswitches have interesting presets with audible change.

This complexity allows to find many different sounds, and more possibilities for the circuit as a preamp, or as an overdrive.

I liked the originality and the possibilities, but some of the controls were too sensitive. This issue alone can ruin the pleasure to play with the circuit.

I did some simple mods from PPCB forum. Now it is really much easier to use, and more range is available on low gain.

Changing opamps wont change the gain or volume, at least not in a noticeable way. Switching VOL to A10K will move unity up higher on the dial. Changing GAIN to A10K will make it easier to dial in lower gain settings. If HICUT is too touchy at the bottom end of rotation, then change to A50K. Which taper works best for you depends on which end of the pot rotation you are using. A-taper spreads out the bottom end of rotation, C-taper spreads out the top end, B-taper does neither.

I changed Volume and Gain pots for A10k, I didnt change the Hicut control. Simple enough but really effective.

It could be used as a tubescreamer alternative, to push an amp, or to boost the mids. Also impressive as high gain overdrive, with classic and sophisticated sounds.

It can get an other life used as a preamp, to amplify an other gain effect, or directly connected to an amplifier fx loop.

It can be powered with 9V, 12V, or 18V. I would say on 9V the circuit works perfectly, but it feels maybe a bit more compressed and tight compared to 18V.

Strongly recommended, simple build, all my thanks to PPCB and musikding !
