Easy build, not too many parts. Great tones in all positions (JTM, 1959 and 1987). 1987 mode has quite a lot of gain, nothing extreme though. Being able to seamlessly blend the High and Normal channels of this pedal is great. Cleans up very well. One of my favorite gain pedals.

At first I had it biased to the drain voltages printed on the PCB. But after a while I found that the circuit is pretty similar to the Plexi Plus and in the Plexi Plus documentation they suggest 5V on all JFET drains. I tried this and I like it better this way.

On the PedalPCB forum they discussed this pedal and mentioned two caveats. The first one is that the Idss of Q3 needs to be equal or greater than Q4s. And the other one is that Vp should be high (around -1.0V) for Q5 so its drain resistance (provided by TRIM3) can be less then 15k, otherwise the pedal will get darker.

So because of this Id say this is a bit more involved to build. But its not hard, either. I have the Runoffgrove Vp/Idss measurement circuit on a breadboard to be able to measure the JFETs. Having a few more J201s to select from (through hole or SMD on adapter board) for the Golden Falk build doesnt hurt.

Plug it into a clean amp and enjoy the classic tones!
