Growling Krizzly Deluxe kit

I just built this and its great. The only problem with the kit was, that the dc-jack was wrong type for this design. I changed an isolated model to get the pre to work, with the provided non isolated jack only thing heard was a loud hum.
It took me about 8 hours to build, including the problem solving with the wrong dc-jack. I think it was the most complicated build I have done so far. I’ve got about 7 other Musikding kits made, different Fuzz and other effects.
So first thing about this one is, that it absolutely needs isolated power. With badly isolated Power source like Power Plant, it’s really loud. But with isolated power it is really quiet, and the sound…
I recorded our band practice, and its simply awesome. It has some of that Gallien Krueger upper mid range presence. EQ points are right on the money. The boost is not clean boost, its not dirty boost either, I’d say it has character. You either like it or not, I like it a lot.
Loop in a pre like that is also clever idea. I put one of my Zoom multis in the loop. Those things really need a loop in order to get all out of them. DI out is clean.
So all in all, it’s a really solid bass pre. I would not recommend it for a first build though, and if you cant speak much German, not a second one either. All the instructions are only in Germany, so you really need to know what you are doing with that one.
But I’d say this pre is definitely going to be one of the cornerstones of my sound from this day on. So thank you Schalteknik and Musikding. This ones a winner.
