Description

The New Wave is a Control Voltage Generator. It has two LFO's (low frequency oscillators) and four different output modes: square wave, triangle wave, sample & hold and sequencer. This kit has a lot of controls, best read the docs to see everything this project has to offer!

This kit is a creation by Parasitstudio.se in cooperation with Musikding.de. If you have any problem with the content of the kits like mising or wrong parts, please contact Musikding (Klaus) at kontakt@musikding.de. For any technical problem relating to building this project, please contact Fredrik at www.parasitstudio.se.

Here´s the parts list: Parts List (BOM)

This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal. Not included in the kit, but also good to have:

  • Aluminium enclosure: select one from top
  • 9V DC power supply
  • 8 nice knobs for the potentiometer, up to 15mm diameter and for 6.3mm shafts
  • Decal, transfer or transparent sheets for labeling

5 from 5 Very useful, but complicated

This pedal is highly useful for controlling synths if you need a second LFO. Lots of options. This was my second build and it was a bit more complex and I made some mistakes.

Was not clear how to attach the JFET and I think I may have burnt it out. It is a small SMD chip on a tiny board, which you mount using some pins. It comes with a mounting socket but the gold pins dont fit, so it seems like the pins should be soldered straight onto the board. Get the orientation right as well - this was hard to decipher. Some more help in the build docs would be helpful as Parasit seem to have used a normal transistor. The result is my Sample and Hold doesnt work.

Also realized too lat where the threeway switch goes on the board (its the waveshape for the triangle/ramp/sawtooth).

The step 4 potentiometer didnt work for me, it just returns whatever the depth value is set to.

Finally, getting the LEDs mounted correctly was complicated - a catch 22, how to install the LEDs into the sockets when youre not sure how far out they need to extend?

All that being said it works mostly fine for me as an extra LFO for my synth, and I sure learned a lot building it. Would love to see more projects like this - but I imagine thats why people get into Eurorack.

5 from 5 Nice little modulator

Fairly easy build, just take your time. Quite tight fitting but perfectly do-able, drilled my own case but this a time consuming process so get it pre-drilled if you want to save time or are of a nervous disposition. I use this to modulate filters, pulse width etc on my modular setup. What would have made this absolutely amazing would be an option to sync this to a clock signal but I suppose that might complicate the board build somewhat. Overall very happy with this
