5 from 5 One of the toughest on the site

Dont be tricked by the size of the build, its one of the toughest and definitely not a first build.

Watchout for the j201 polarity as its a conversion from smd (since j201 are really rare in through home nowadays).

Regarding the pedal its a fully analog monophonic octaver and it does an impressive job, and two Octave down is not common, but it can go really funky. Tracking is good.

5 from 5 OC-7 octaver

I really like the voices of each octave on this circuit. Warm, round, beautiful sound.

I scratch my head for a while, trying to figure how to set the trimmer. A kind forumite told me it was near to impossible to hear the variations with a guitar signal only. I have been suggested to use a sinusoidal signal :

Balancing the rectifier is almost a lost cause with musical signals, you need a regular and symmetrical waveform to get to the ideal. A sine wave gives the best chance of doing it. Even then, theres little chance of getting a result that sounds at all sweet. The problem is the sharp transitions in the narrow pointy bits of the rectified waveform are harsh and not really harmonic which cant very well be filtered out. Its another flavour of nasty fuzz but you can find sweetspots if youre prepared to find its strengths.

I used my old cheap casio electric piano, and found a sweet spot around the middle of the trimmer rotation.
I also realized the octaves are much more precise with an electric keyboard. It really creates full chords with a single note !

A compressor, or something before the octaver, might help to achieve a cleaner octave with bass or guitar.

Its a tight build, I wanted top-mounted jacks, pcb isnt really adapted for this. I insisted and the pots are in the middle of the enclosure... Looks good though. I am glad I did it.

Thanks to Delyk and musikding for this beautiful octaver. Good kit for an amazing effect !
