The Pathogen Distortion emulates an American high gain amp. It additionally has an effective 3-band tone stack.

This kit contains the PCB and all necessary parts. The enclosure can be selected, please select 5 knobs, up to 19mm diameter for 6.3mm shaft seperately.

Cold warmth and sparkling darkness from a violent distortion

I built this circuit mostly out of curiosity, because I really liked two other builds from the same famous circuit designer : Corduroy and Monarch distortion.

I tried to find more info about this circuit. I learned that it has been created in collaboration with a gifted guitarist, inspired by Peavey 5150 and Mesa triple rectifier amps.

Some reviews mention that the circuit sounds a bit dark. It does if you set all EQ controls at the middle of rotation, but once you start turning Treble CW, the darkness disappears quickly. More accuratly, high frequencies come into play and brigthen the sound in a very pleasing way.

The kit came with RC4558 ICs. I tried NE5532 and TL72. They all sound good and slightly different. Hard decision... maybe a bit more wild with 4558, and slightly smoother around the edges with TL72.

This is a powerful, colourful, sharpened distortion, able to retain a lot of precision, dynamics and clarity from the instrument.

If you are looking for cold warmth and sparkling darkness in a violent distortion : You will be pleased.

I had a lot of fun building the Pathogen, but it was only the beginning. I am going to play a lot with it, starting now...

Nice pedal, decent kit

Id give five stars but the PedalPCB 3PDT board was missing in the kit, so four stars is the best I can do. Pedal sounds great. No oscillation, not too noisy. Ive read that its very close to the Wrectifier, so Im not going to have to try the Wrectifier.
