The Sonic Reducer bitcrusher is a sample rate reducer / aliaser that uses sample and hold to take ?snapshots? of your signal. It basically works as a crude analog to digital converter. A pulse oscillator determines at which frequency these samples are taken. The resolution pot controls the pulsewidth of the oscillator - wider pulse lets more clean signal though.

This kit is a creation by in cooperation with If you have any problem with the content of the kits like mising or wrong parts, please contact Musikding (Klaus) at For any technical problem relating to building this project, please contact Fredrik at

Here´s the parts list: Parts List (BOM)

This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal. Not included in the kit, but also good to have:

  • Aluminium enclosure: select one from top
  • 9V DC power supply
  • 2 nice knobs for the potentiometer, up to 20mm diameter and for 6.3mm shafts
  • Decal, transfer or transparent sheets for labeling

4 from 5 Cool and quite easy kit

It had 1 wrong resistor value in the bag. Fortunately I had the right one myself.
I could use all instructions in one file, instead of going to the sweedish site, for the switch/led wiring... other than that it works great.

4 from 5 Nice and LoFi sounding pedal.

Its very nice and interesting pedal, but the Documentation is confusing.

First: If you are building it, be aware that you are looking at the right Documentation, either version 1.1 or 2.0, because the parts are different.

Second: Wiring Documentation is a bit tricky to find, so i would recomend buying one of those DP3T pcbs to make it easier.

Overall: A great pedal, just be aware that you are looking at the right documetation while building. :-)

5 from 5 Just perfect

Easy build, super sound.

4 from 5 Great effect, but it sounds like a ring modulator as well

I expected something similar, but somehow without the „ring modulator“-sound. Still, it’s a fun and useful effect and I‘ll experiment with it live. One component, a 15k resistor, was missing, but I just used one I have lying around.
The PCB itself is very well built.
Recommended: isolation rubber stickers for the back of the pots.

5 from 5 Tasteful bit crusher!

Its a nice, tidy and pretty build, as always with the Parasite Studio kits. I love the way Fredric does his layouts! I dont think the demo does it enough justice, tho. It goes from being a really musical and subtle effect, all the way to bit crushing and noisy nonsense, and everything in between. And it does it well. A great design and a great effect.
