Description

The Factory is a clone of a well known boutique fuzz pedal. It is basically an extended germanium fuzz. You can create classic sounds as well as some very unusual sounds.

This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal. Also very useful:

Not included in the kit, but also good to have:

  • Aluminium enclosure: select one on the top
  • 9V battery or DC power supply
  • 5 nice knobs for the pots, for 6.3mm shaft
  • Decal, transfer or transparent sheets for labeling

Instrument: Guitar Bass
Effect-Type: Fuzz

3 from 5 Its a good kit, with a bad documentation

Id give this 5 stars... but the build documentation is rather bad. The bags the transistors come in are marked with the wrong codes, there is no manual, so you need to find out by yourself how the pedal works. Since its a rather crazy device, you never know if some things are a feature of a fault in the circuit.
Also if you take the drilled enclosure its a bit hard to fit all the things in, since the jacks and the led have been placed a bit too close together to fit the PCB between them.

5 from 5 Fun build and pedal

The Factory was my second build, after a PedalPCB Glory Hole. To my surprise, i found this build much easier. Not because of the lower part count, but the room for soldering on the PCB. High quality kit! The pedal does everything the Fuzz Factory does, very crazy and lots of fun. Highly recommend for a starting DIYer.

5 from 5 A moddable Fuzz Factory clone

Great clone!

I didnt really know about the original, Im very happy with how the fuzz cleans up with guitar volume. You can get a lot of different tones by dialing the knobs in various ways.

The offboard wiring with 5 pots is a bit of a burden, BUT it makes modding much easier!

I added 4 mods:
1. FAT mod: place C1, C2 and C4 on sockets and experiment with values; easier than putting extra capacitors on a toggleswitch. I used C1=47u, C2=2.2u, C4=47u. I actually didnt try with the original values, but with these I can get the pedal to sound velcro / sputtery to almost like a BigMuff, expanding the versatility of the pedal.
2. STABILIZE footswitch: you can insert a 3PDT footswitch between the STAB pots and the following pots to short the STAB knob when the 3PDT is engaged. This is equivalent to maxing the STAB pot. Now you can configure the pedal in a squealing setting only to be freed when the STAB switch is disengaged -- which is why I call this the STABILIZE switch.
3. TONE mod : add a low-pass circuit on the output using a mini-pot and a capacitor to be able to tame some of the piercing high-frequencies. Aion FXs version uses a 10k lin pot and 18n cap. I used 20k/10n which gives the same result.
4. COMP expression input: this is the most complex mod. You can insert a switched jack between the COMP pot and the PCB, allowing you to replace the pot with an external 10k expression pedal. If you dial in STAB just a tad below 100% so the pedal starts to squeal, you can control the squeal frequency with the expression pedal. Matt Bellamy tricks without having to buy special guitars. :-)

5 from 5 parfait

5 from 5 I am loving it !!!!

I have never tried an original fuzz factory but from the videos seen online this pedal nail all the sounds...The pots are so interactive with each other and allow to get classical fuzz face sounds, gated velcro sounds, octave up and down and crazing oscillation mode...you can spend hours experimenting...Despite the five knobs once you understand how they interact its not difficult to use and obtain the sound you are looking for. Its not difficult to build also as first built ...you ll get all the practice you need to assemble it along the way.
Highly recommended to fuzz lovers!!!

5 from 5 wow, I knew it would be killer, but ...

this is awesome
at first it sounded unhinged, thought I had some lose wire, but I double checked everything
THIS is how a distortion pedal should sound !!

minor issue is that 2 screw holes were not deep enough to close the box properly
but awesome quality kit

5 from 5 Crazy Fuzz

This is a screaming, squealing, self-oscillating, kind of octaving and ring-modulating beast.
Hard to tame and impossible to really understand. It can do Fuzz Face too, but thats not where it shines.
Looking for the most insane fuzz ever ? This is it.

If you want more bass, you can tweak C2.

Perfect 👌

5 from 5 Excellent, Worth the Wait

I built this pedal in about 2 hours, taking my time. The sound is really great, with a nice, warm fuzz. The documentation is quite clear if you have some basic electronics knowledge. The only downside is the very long delivery time between ordering and receiving the kit. But once it arrived, it was a real pleasure to build and play!

5 from 5 Great pedal!

The kits came complete, as usual and sounds perfect!

5 from 5 My first build, not an easy one to start. A beast.

Electrical engineer here, so I kinda knew what I was doing, but I never had the opportunity to put my hands on real hardware. For sure its not an easy build, but in the end it is totally worth it. Thanks musikding for this opportunity, looking forward for new experiments!
