Description

The Range is a treblebooster based on the legendary Dallas Rangemaster. It has the same features but some addons. It works with a germanium PNP transistor and uses a toggle-switch to switch between different input capacitors which makes it more versatile. It also features negative ground, so you can use the power-supply you use for your ofter effects.

This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal.

Not included in the kit, but also very good to have:

  • Aluminium enclosure: select one above.
  • 9V battery or DC power supply
  • 1 nice knob for the potentiometer, for 6.3mm shaft
  • Decal, transfer or transparent sheets for labeling

Instrument: Guitar
Effect-Type: Boost

5 from 5 Very easy to build, does the job

You can build it in a couple of hours. I recommend to use a signal generator and an osciloscope to adjust the transistor polarization. Using the standard values gave a very asymmetrical signal, but it is expected with a very small feedback design. However, some may like the asymmetrical signal sound.
Just try it and see what you like.

4 from 5 real treble booster

this pedal is a real treble booster + a booster;
Micro-switch 3 positions offers a choice of boost level;
Potentiometer allows a treble boost from volume reduction up to volume boost;
I am slighly disappointed as it does not really overdrive: may be the choice of Germanium transistor, it comes with an AC125 while original Range master came with an OC44(but it is easily changeable if you find an OC44 or OC71 )
Otherwise, nearly anybody can assemble the kit, one has just to have good eyes ( or a magnifier), good iron, good solder, patience, and follow the doc.
And it is very rewarding when you close the box and play it !
this assembly was the first for me !

5 from 5 Great booster

First kit I ever built, really easy.

Very nice booster when plugged before a Proco Rat, for grungy sounds. Plugged derectly in a JCM 900, its sounds like an old Black Sabbath album, perfect !

5 from 5 Range Master

First: The kit itself is quick to assemble. Everything is well packed and labelled. The parts list, wiring schematics are easy to download as pdf. I drilled the alu inclosure myself. No big deal.
Second: The Range itself is just amazing. Sounds great as good as the Dallas Rangemaster treble booster. No hum or other annoying noises. Just the typical Range Master sound.
Third: Ships to Canada for a reasonable price.
