5 from 5 Very good sound

He was looking for the Fender sound to imitate the sound of the first Dire Straits records as a good fan of Mark Knopfler.
I have been enthusiastic about the sound of this pedal. It is perfect for playing Sultans of swing with the compressor Orange squeezer Kit.
Obviously the pedal has a very clean sound, perfectly imitating the slight saturation of these amps with the Gain at maximum.
I recommend this kit to any guitarist looking for a good clean sound.

5 from 5 Maxed out tweed amp style distortion

I originally bought this because of a previous review speaking of a great clean sound. This thing is everything but clean. With vintage Filtertron pickups I was able to achieve a really nice almost clean sound with the gain just below a quarter to and the bright switch turned on, though, but with late 70s humbuckers of about 8-10K it was completely impossible. Tried adding different input resistors and switching clipping diodes and ICs resulting in only small differences in colour and grainyness but basically keeping the same amount of distortion. What I got instead, though, was a really nice and fantastically dangerous sounding tweed style distortion, sounding like an old tweed combo fighting for its life about to burst into flames any second. It sounds very much like the real thing. For me this one will definitely find its place in the studio but, much like many of my favorite fuzzes, has a too specific and quite narrow area of usability to end up in my live rig. In short, if you want that vintage edgy, fiery and dirty tweed distortion you cant wrong with this one, but if you are after clean sound this one simply doesnt have it unless maybe if your pickups are below 5K.
