The Rat is based on one of the most popular distortion effects of the 80s. It features a good mixture of distortion, sustain and punch.

This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal.

Not included in the kit, but also very good to have:

Great, rich sound, quick work

A great starter project for a rainy afternoon, with not much to fail. Almost solderable by numbers.
Great sound. Low noise. Surprising versatility.

Still there are some annoying things:
- is hard to bend the resistors to correct pitch (theyre bent so close to the body that the bending gauge is practically useless - with the next kit I am making myself a custom bending gauge) - But I understand this, as all the projects are very space saving
- I would be very happy to have a list of individual components with values somewhere - it is annoying and time consuming to search for each and every components value in the schematic. I know you dont support soldering by numbers, but I also dont see a point really in this. It wouldnt do any harm really if you sent a print of instructions with the kit.
- there are some resistor numbers omitted and it is not documented anywhere - It was not until I finished the soldering to PCB that I was sure, I didnt omit something.
- It would be great if you posted an idea /illustration for less experienced makers how to suit all the stuff in the (quite small) chassis
- on the PCB there is no indication of the transistor orientation (there is it on the wiring diagram, but not on the PCB - but you can figure it out from the schematic) - for the builders, its a D (not a C)

what I changed:
- used 1nF Mallory, 33pF and 100pF mica caps (probably a straight overkill)
- used ribbon cable (solid) for the pots (much less mess around the PCB)
- LED is amber (red is soo generic)
- for the output I used insulation washers so the only grounding contact with the chassis is at the input
- output is grounded straight to input, not to the pcb
- header pins for the DC in (+ and gnd)
- connected LED with color coded female jumper wires

Abolutely Rat !!

Great kit with killer sound.
I built two so far.
A few suggestions :
- replace 1 diode with a red led for a bit more grunt. This is the only mod I made, which really says a lot about this kit. :-)
- Due to the PCB design, the input and output wires are quite close together. I omitted the switch PCB and used screened wire to avoid output/input coupling. Wiring the screened cable straight to the switch makes life easier and makes for better screening.
- use star grounding at the input as much as possible. Proper grounding is essential in high gain pedals such as these.
- use an input socket with a switch to ground. It avoids squealing when nothing is connected. (General good practice in high gain pedals).

Super produit, super son !

Première expérience de pédale DIY, cest très facile ! Les schémas sont clairs, ça rappelle un peu les cours de techno du collège ! En ce qui concerne le son , il est énorme ! et pas de souffle, ni de hum, rien ! prévoir une bonne alim indépendante (pas de guirlande). Enfin, il manquait le boitier à la réception de la commande, je lai réclamé et reçu 2 jours après !

Une procorat facile à monter

Rien à dire sur le kit, javais commandé il y a de cela quelques années un autre kit (un boost) que jai plus ou moins réussi, et là je trouve tout beaucoup plus facile, la plupart des éléments se soudent sur le pcb, il y a assez peu de chance de se tromper pour peu quon soit minutieux. Le gros point fort (je ne sais pas ce quil en est sur les autres kits) est quil y a un pcb supplémentaire qui relie la led et le footswitch, rendant quasi impossible la moindre erreur sur le branchement du 3PDT, lerreur classique du débutant.

Ça sonne en plus super sur guitare et basse, un peu plus d’aiguës que sur loriginal, cest pas mal pour éclaircir la disto sur la basse.

A recommander au débutant soudeur !

Fabulous !

Very good pedal, easy to built with an awesome sound for that price !
The PCB is well done and components are sufficiently spaced for easy soldering.
You get an overdrive to a fuzz sound. The filtering pot is very efficient and you have a lot of sounds.

Great easy kit

All the components were on the bag, you can do it even if you cant read the schematic since the parts lists comes with Numbers that correspond to the board so its like a colouring book. The entre project including drilling the enclosure and painting it took about 4 hours.

Great kit

Ordered the kit and received it within a week. Everything neatly packed and labelled. Came with the OP07 opamp (not the original LM308) but the pedal sounds great as is, typical RAT sound.

Ive implemented a few mods (assymmetrical clipping, Ruetz mod on a footswitch) and the pedal really sings. The layout on the PCB allows for easy tinkering. Once again, Musikding delivers!

excellent RAT

tres satisfait pour plusieurs raison:
1 Une fois montée la pédale fonctionne parfaitement et le son est au rdv, bon jen attendais pas moins sachant que cest le même schéma que la proco rat.
2 les composants sont de qualité, résistances de précision, jack made in japan etc.....
3 les pcb sont trés bien fait, la soudure prend parfaitement, une fois terminée (si vous savez souder correctement) on a limpression que la carte vient dun atelier pro.
4 le boitier on dirait du hammond
5 les composants sont déjà repérés pour certain (résistances)
6 les fils sont donnés en nombre et pré dénudés (ça javais jamais vu, cest trés cool)
7 vous lavez compris le kit est dune grande qualité
Donc si vous voulez une vraie rat à prix réduit cest ici (ça en jette moins que la proco mais le résultat sonore est le même)

Excellentissime!!

Je suis vraiment content de ce kit.
Monté plus rapidement que le premier (der muff Rams head), cest très facile.
Le son est tellement bon que je me sers essentiellement de la Rat.
Je fais des reprises de rock en tous genres, et en ce sens je la trouve super pour les morceaux qui demandent une bonne définition au niveau distortion. Evidemment si on pousse la disto on atteint presque de la fuzz.
Moi je la couple à un bon gros crunch avec les 3 potards à 10H et cest le top!!
Et le faire soi-même cest super.
