Description

The N.E.W. DIY MT-2 is as much an EQ pedal as it is a distortion pedal. In addition to the 3 band EQ with parametric mids, there are also several fixed EQ sections in the circuit providing pre-emphasis and postemphasis EQ curves which give the MT-2 its characteristic sound.

This kit contains all necessary parts, including pcb: Parts list

5 knobs for the pots are not included in the kit, you can select them yourself. The pots have round 6.3mm shafts.

5 from 5 Jeder brauch ein Metallzone

5 from 5 Very close to the original

The kit : complete and well tagged and classified as usual
The build : not the easisest one because of the number of components, but with patience youll get it. Beware of the small PCB that goes with the 3PD footswitch, it is easy to solder it in the wrong direction (I did and spent hours to find what went wrong...). The original GCI schematics are not as obvious as the MusikDing schematics on this point.
The sound : I own an old MT2, an original one, and it does sound very similar. I would lie if I say it sounds exactly the same, because like the original the EQ pots and mid frequency pots are verrrrrrrry sensitive. I spent quite some time trying to set both exactly identical and there are always some slight differences, but it is really in the same ballpark. It is aggressive, cold, brutal and quite tight/compressed as you expect from a metalzone. If not 100% identical, this project definitely has the unmistakable MT2 identity. Dont try to play blues licks with this pedal ah ah
Im not totaly convinced with the mods switches , but of course they will work a different way depending on your pickups, amp and settings. It probably offers new possibilities, but in my personal use I prefer the switches on original setting. Perfect for old Pantera riffs and this king of stuff :)
I have a lot of fun with this nasty noise device anyway.
