Description

The Sapphire Amp Overdrive is based on the Blues Driver, one of the most popular pedals.The Blues Driver starts with a circuit very similar to the OD-2, and then adds a slight bass boost to the end to give it the signature fullness, along with some clipping diodes and a fixed-position tonestack for shaping the tone.

This kit contains the PCB and all necessary parts. The enclosure can be selected, please select 4 knobs, up to 19mm diameter, for 6,3mm shaft separately.

5 from 5 classic and amazing sound

First, I tried the Galaxie mod. Never heard of this mod before. Maybe something went wrong on my build, this mod turned the circuit into a clean boost, no saturation except if i put 4 diodes back in the circuit (D2-D5). I Probably did a mistake and couldnt find any obvious issue.
Finally, I didnt have much use of it, so I turned the circuit back to original specs and added a few changes from a famous article at premierguitar.com. I couldnt leave these discrete buffers and gain stages unused, whatever the issue.

I only did a few minor changes this time, really nothing :

D7, D2 = D9k (sub 1N34A) in series with 1N4001
D3, D5, D6 = D9k

R13 = 1M resistor/100R on a toggleswitch
R14= 15k/8k2 on the same switch

The switch cuts some bass (R13/100R is effective getting closer to an overdrive) and some mids (R14, 8k2 get the circuit quieter, losing some density in the saturation).

Very impressed by the quality and the character of the sound, no surprise as it is among the best circuits ever, but still... Bass control is a nice touch, always useful. I will put this circuit to good use now.
