5 from 5 C-MOS based preamp, also great as OD/Distortion.

Very pleased with this circuit. I wasnt very experienced with C-MOS gain effects, so it is a really good surprise.

Agressive, bright and sharp distorted sounds.

I could not choose between Bass and Lead versions : I used two 4PDT toggleswitches to modify the seven components involved in the modes. All the caps on one 4PDT, all resistors on the other one. There is just enough space to put them in the enclosure, on both sides of the 3PDT footswitch.

I tried the circuit with guitar and bass. 3-bands active EQ is effective in both Lead and Bass modes. On my build, Mid and Treble have a greater range of action than Bass. A modification to increase the bass frequencies even further could be interesting, but its not really required in my opinion.

Bass and Lead modes are both great with guitars, the Lead mode is a bit less effective with a bass, so I would recommend guitar players to use extra toggleswitches, to switch between Lead and Bass versions. Its probably not worth the trouble for bass players.

Something weird happened when I turned the Treble fully CW. Popping and white noises as if some part was overloaded. I noticed that the same issue happened to other builders. A 10k resistor between the Treble pot lug3 and the pcb pad solved it.

I made a quick build report here :

All my thanks to Aion and Musikding for this preamp circuit !
