Runoffgoove?s Azabache is an adaption of the classic Tweed Amp sound as an overdrive pedal. It is designed by runoffgroove.com.

4 Fender amps in one pedal!

It does what it is supposed to do: sound like a good old Fender Tweed or Blackface amp with Jensen P10R speaker. The sound varieties are rich from bright clean to warmed-up overdrive.

I had a bit of difficulties with the kit since some parts were missing in my shipment: 4 transistor sockets and resistor for the LED. It took a while to get them, at first I didnt even get an answer for my emails from Das Musikding.

Note: there is no wiring diagram on the build instructions pdf, so you can choose your own favorite wiring method with the 3PDT switch. I took an easy way with 3PDT + LED pcb from Das Musikding.

I would have given 5 stars but problems with missing parts drop one star. Hence 4 stars.

Fender amp in a box

Wonderful sounds of different Fender amps, as follow :
Bright + no scoop: Tweed
No bright + no scoop: Blond
Scoop + no bright: Black
Scoop + bright: Silver
Easy build, worked on first time. I think it will last on my pedalboard !

Buen pedal

El sonido es muy bueno, desde un limpio con mucho brillo hasta un overdrive medio.
Le quito una estrella en la reseña por dos cosas:

- Los condensadores de 220nF que vinieron con el kit eran demasiado grandes y no encajaban bien en la placa, que es muy pequeña y queda todo muy apretado.

- No tenía resistencia para el led.

- Los zócalos para montar los J201 SMD no encajan en los zócalos propiamente dichos después. Funciona mucho mejor soldar las pastillas sobrantes de otros componentes, pues entran como un guante en los zócalos.

Por lo demás, un pedal muy chulo, merece la pena construirlo.

Clarity and sparkling precision, it can handle everything I throw at it.

Great kit, everything was included, even some good J201 through-hole version.

I guess many other possibilities can be explored just by trying some different JFET transistors in there.

Simple build, good instructions. I added some easy mods I found on PPCB forum : An extra Presence control and a cabsim toggleswitch. I tried them before drilling extra holes, and felt that they were really usefull.

The Azabache sounds very good on its own, but it becomes obviously amazing when you push it with an other overdrive before it.

I think this circuit is at its best when connected after an other gain effect.

Usually, when I try this with other gain circuits, the sound gets quicly too muddy with a great loss of precision and dynamics.

I am really surprised with the Azabache, it can handle everything I throw at it, even the most violent and outrageous distortion I can find. The sound remains perfectly musical and easily usable with the Azabache Gain control fully CW...

Fender is famous for giving some clarity and sparkling precision to the signal. These character features are fully present in this circuit.

Strongly recommended.
