Description

The Screamer is a project to build 2 famous overdrive pedals, the TS-9 and TS-808. Both versions are nearly identical, there are just 2 resistors different.

The new version 2 uses pcb mount pots and an adaptor board for the footswitch. This makes wiring and assembly much faster and safer!

This kit contains all parts you need to build a fully functional effect pedal. Also very useful:

Not included in the kit, but also good to have:

  • Aluminium enclosure: select one on the top
  • DC power supply
  • 3 nice knobs for the pots, for 6.3mm shaft
  • Decal, transfer or transparent sheets for labeling

Instrument: Guitar

5 from 5 Tube screamer...

Very good kit! The sound is good and the kit is rather easy to mount. If you add another switch you can easily switch between the TS-9 and the TS-808 circuit,

5 from 5 Great product, great build, great sound !

I never owned, or even tried, a real Tubescreamer so I cant compare, but this pedal sounds great ! As expected it stacks very well with my other pedals. You can choose between TS9 and 808, I went with the TS9 option. There is also a mod by bypassing one of the diods (this looks easy enough, had I known I would have ordered two additional switches to benefit from all the capabilities. Oh well)

I hadnt soldered anything since high school, but this is quite intuitive. This was my first pedal build, and I nailed it on the first try! However Id be extra cautious as a first build: Make a quick google search and follow some video tutorials before starting.

Of course I had to paint it green.
My daughter: Daddy, why do you paint it green?
Me : Come on, you know all tubescreamers are green! it has to do with the sound!

5 from 5 Great!

It´s easy to build and the result is excellent. It gives to your sound a great punch, I use it with amp distortion and now my metal distortion sounds more crunchy... and it is true bypass... Love it.

Now I have to give it a coat of paint

5 from 5 Easy to assemble

This was my very first DIY guitar pedal build. Musikding made it really easy with well organized and labelled materials. Thanks!

5 from 5 Straightforward build

Such an easy to build, good sounding pedal! That went straight to my board. And I cant think of a better place to get started to the beautiful world of DIY audio devices.

5 from 5 XL

I own an original 1990 TS10, with the Japanese JRC4458D op-amp - one of my to-go-to pedals from day one. A great sounding tube screamer, only due to its pcb mounted jacks and crummy switch, slightly fragile. I figured I could do with a backup.

Built the Screamer with both mods. So with a switch for the TS808 and TS9 resistors and a switch for symm/asymm clipping. I dont hear much difference between the TS808 and TS9; maybe more high frequencies in the TS9. The clipping switch is a nice added feature; the asymm adds a bit of low end.

Having learned my lesson on previous occasions, I worked out the mods before I started populating the pcb. Populating the pcb was easy. I always socket the diodes, so that I can try out different types of clipping diodes. Same with the transistors.

Comparing the Screamer with my TS10, I would say that the TS10 has a slightly more transparent sound, whereas the Screamer has more gain.

Good one!

5 from 5 Very good DIY kit - and a good OD!

The kit was fun to put together. Enclosure predrilled. Good description. Also ordered knobs and toggleswitches to fix the mod for a double screamer feature.
